ABA creates hand-knotted rugs that balance between design object and artwork. Rooted in a deep respect for craftsmanship, material, and tactility, the brand translates traditional artisanship into contemporary collectible design pieces in wool and silk. Each piece is produced in a limited edition in Nepal and comes with a digital passport that preserves the story and craftsmanship behind the object.
ABA is a collaboration between Jan Weytjens (Touching Floors) and designer Maxime Szyf (MAXIMALdesign), brought together by a shared fascination for the hand-knotted rug and a desire to reinterpret that craft for today. Where Jan brings a deep-rooted respect for heritage and materiality, believing every step across a rug should reveal something new in softness and texture, Maxime contributes a distinctive design perspective shaped by years working for international brands and a lifelong personal connection to the world of handknotted carpets.
The name ABA means "father" in both Hebrew and Tibetan, a thread that runs through everything the brand does. Working in dialogue with designers and artists, ABA produces pieces that are not only aesthetically refined but carry a strong character and artistic point of view. Each rug is fitted with an integrated NFC chip, recording its origin, production process, and ownership through blockchain technology, bridging traditional craft with a contemporary approach, and elevating every piece from interior object to true collectible.
